| A "rough cut" is a preliminary version of a project, most commonly used in filmmaking to describe the first edit of a film before all final details are added. It's an early draft that shows the basic sequence of events, but often lacks finished sound, music, and visual effects, and is used for feedback before proceeding to the fine cut. The term can also refer to roughly cut lumber that has not been planed or sanded smooth. |
